Markets and Applications

We are expert in Engine Exhaust Thermocouple development for monitoring engine exhaust temperature in gasoline or diesel engines; Turbine Rake, designed for measuring temperature and/ or air pressure in aircraft turbine engines; Dual Thermocouple Cone Rings used extensively in plastic extrusions; and Wave Ring Thermocouple, a proprietary design of ring thermocouples.

TCP engine exhaust and compressor thermocouple thermocouples are available in a variety of configurations to satisfy many different requirements. The standard calibrations are Iron/Constantan (Type J) and Chrome/Alumel (Type K); other calibrations are available upon request. Thermocouple wires are insulated in a ceramic material that withstands high temperature, provides high conductivity, prevents wire vibration, and minimizes oxidation. This assures long life under severe conditions.

Our engineers work with product design engineers to create ever improving equipment efficiencies, optimized control, and faster cook times. TCP is a global supplier to fryer manufacturers and, for generations, has been considered the industry’s choice for long lasting performance and consistent operation for virtually all cooking equipment, including rotisseries, combi-therms and all convection ovens. TCP thermal technologies are the popular OEM choice for other cooking equipment in the foodservice industry — including grills, griddles and toasters. Our heaters, sensors and controllers deliver the optimal cooking environment and, when the dining is done, you’ll find TCP controlling warewashing systems, too!

For oil and gas applications, obtaining accurate temperatures of refinery heater tubes is difficult. The point of measurement on a heater tube is surrounded by high temperature gases and flames commonly as much as 600º - 800º F hotter than the heater tube at point of measurement. The gases are also corrosive to thermocouple materials. Heat transfer along the length of the thermocouple assembly to the point of attachment on the heater tube tends to cause the thermocouple to be responsive to the higher gas temperatures rather than the desired tube wall temperature.

Trust TCP for the better solution. Our Tube Temp thermocouple is designed to be responsive to tube wall temperature by placing the thermojunction in fused contact with the tube wall and by providing a direct and totally metallic heat transfer path from the sheath to the tube wall. The Tube Temp thermocouple provides better accuracy, superior reliability, improved longevity, and ease of installation over competitive thermocouples available for fired heater tube temperature measurement. TCP’s Tube Temp thermocouples are an unsurpassed technology used around the world.

TCP’s line of high-pressure thermocouple assemblies are ideal for extrusion process applications. They are also designed for the specific demands of direct immersion and injection molding heated dies/extrusions equipment, blow molding devices, pipelines, nozzles, tubes, and othe plastic processing applications. Thermocouples for the plastics industry typically employ a 1/8 inch NPT fitting utilizing a compression fitting or bayonet adapter temperature ratings are maximum of 800º Fahrenheit (427º C). Sheet material is usually 304 or 316 SS. TCP thermocouples offer excellent inherent accuracy, suitability over a broad temperature range, relatively fast thermal response, ruggedness, high reliability, low cost and great versatility of application.

In power generation, mechanical energy is derived from heat energy — including from gas, hydropower, or thermal power plants and/or the more alternative windmills and solar power plants. Once collected, this mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy. Measuring this heat energy is critical to the process and to accurately control and monitor energy flow. TCP offers a wide range of temperature measurement equipment, including temperature thermocouples and RTD sensors. Rugged exhaust thermocouples are used in engine manufacturing and reactor applications. Robust sensors offer thermal solutions in various applications in the power gen market including fuel cells, fuel gas, and steam superheating.

Trust TCP for durable, reliable sensors that withstand high temperature environments such as blast furnaces used in the forging, pickling, annealing, and hardening of steel, and other hightemperature industrial processes. This industrial heating equipment must comply with pyrometric specification such as AMS 2750ºF, which defines thermocouple requirements used for SAT, TUS, furnace and load thermocouples. For applications like these, when temperatures exceed the upper limits of conventional base metal thermocouples, TCP’s High Temperature Thermocouples are highly recommended for these applications.

Heavy-duty sensors can withstand harsh environments like those found in wastewater treatment applications. Sensors and assemblies can include thermowell protection for extreme condition. All products are calibrated to ANSI MC96.1/ASTM E230 standards. These applications, engine and compressor service, call for spring-loaded thermocouples for superior bearing contact, high-temperature Teflon® insulation, and braided stainless steel overwrap (PT100 DIN 43760). Thermocouples in industrial compressors are prone to damage caused by vibration. For example, the speed of rotation in an electric motor will contribute to vibration. TCP RTDs are vibration resistant. The spring loaded design helps sustain contact between the probe and the thermowell in the presence of static and vibration, ensuring optimal heat transfer between the thermowell and probe while the sensor is insulated from vibration.
